Ukrainian Fashion Week is the only officially recognised Prêt-a-Porter Week in Ukraine. It was held for the first time in November 1997, when it became the first professional fashion event in Eastern Europe. It is a biannual event in Ukraine that corresponds entirely to international standards for prêt-a-porter shows, gathers more than 40 participants, accredits more than 150 Ukrainian and international mass media and is attended by over 25000 guests.
In 2003, the projects “New Names” and Fresh Fashion were founded as a part of Ukrainian Fashion Week in order to search for and support talented youth. Such initiatives have helped provide a continuous inflow of ‘new blood’ into Ukrainian fashion and have given UFW a reputation as a discoverer of young talents.
Ukrainian Fashion Week features series of projects: Best Fashion Awards (the First Ukrainian fashion awards), Holiday Fashion Week (cruise collections and beach accessories shows that take place in Odessa) and the Ukrainian contest of young fashion designers, ‘Fashion Seasons – a Look into the Future’. Inviting renowned couturiers to Ukraine has become a tradition – in 2009 and 2010 Elie Saab and Stephane Rolland presented their Haute Couture collections in Ukraine as apart of UFW.
