For the third time, Copenhagen Fashion Summit will take place in the spring of 2014, marking the one-year anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory accident in Bangladesh. Since the catastrophe, a long line of initiatives have been set in motion. First and foremost with a focus on improving safety and working conditions for the employees in Bangladesh’s thousands of clothing factories, but also to promote greener manufacturing.
Copenhagen Fashion Summit is the world’s largest and most significant event on sustainability and social responsibility in the fashion industry under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. With prominent speakers such as Vanessa Friedman from Financial Times, Marie-Claire Daveu from Kering and Livia Firth from Green Carpet Challenge, the coming Copenhagen Fashion Summit will highlight the global fashion industry’s most innovative solutions to its critical environmental, social and ethical challenges.
He joined Stella McCartney from Marithé & François Girbaud in Paris, where he was General Manager. Previously, Bizzarri worked for the Mandarina Duck Group from 1993 to 2004, most recently as General Manager. Prior to this, Bizzarri advised mid-sized and start-up businesses in Italy on strategy, business and organizational issues as part of Accenture’s strategy consulting team. During the course of his career, Bizzarri, 51 years old, has worked and lived in Hong Kong for a year, Paris for five years and London for four years.
The Crown Princess grew up in Hobart, Australia and holds a double degree in law and commerce from the University of Tasmania. She was born Mary Elizabeth Donaldson on February 5, 1972 and on the occasion of her marriage to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark on May 14, 2004, she became Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark.
The Crown Princess is the patron of a number of organisations in social, health and humanitarian areas as well as in areas of culture, fashion, research and sports. The patronages include amongst others the United Nations Population Fund, the Danish Heart Association, the Danish Mental Health Fund, Copenhagen International Fashion Fair, Designer’s Nest, LOKK – national association of women’s shelters, Maternity Worldwide, World Health Organisation Regional Office for Europe, and Danish Refugee Council.
The Crown Princess’ social commitment is also evident in the work of her foundation. The Mary Foundation is founded on a belief that everyone has a fundamental need to feel like they belong to a group or a community. The Mary Foundation fights to prevent and alleviate social isolation.
She is a pioneer in sustainability in fashion, and since 2008, she has been working ambitiously to push the sustainability agenda in the fashion industry globally. She is the mastermind behind the world’s largest and recurring event on sustainability in fashion, Copenhagen Fashion Summit. In the fall of 2013 she gave a TedX talk in Copenhagen with the topic “Changing the world through fashion”.
Since she graduated as a project manager from The Kaospilots, Eva Kruse has worked within the worlds of fashion and media, including positions as editor in chief with the fashion magazine Eurowoman and as a TV presenter with the Danish TV2 and TV3. In 2005, Eva Kruse was one of the co-founders of Danish Fashion Institute.
She co-founded Source4Style, a worldwide marketplace for novel and sustainable materials featuring suppliers in nearly 40 countries and catering to designers in 80 countries around the world; co-authored Style, Naturally; and has produced a range of films and web series focused on the environment. Summer Rayne appeared in this past year’s Pirelli Calendar shot by Steve McCurry, emphasizing women whose work revolves around the environment; and was the muse behind the creation of Toyota’s new hybrid car, the Prius C.
